A Sacred Place

Image
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a religious Mormon church. Members of the church congregate each Sunday to discuss their beliefs with one another and participate in Sunday school classes and sacrament meeting. Members spend their time in the church understanding their religion and becoming closer to God.      A formally dressed, kind gentleman opens the door for members as they enter the building, they are then met with a greeting by the missionaries. The missionaries are young adults who dress in suits and ties and wear nametags saying their last name with the word "Elder" in front of it. The missionaries share their beliefs, and invite others to come to church on Sundays, with the goal of growing the church population. Members are then directed to the chapel where the meeting takes place.      Before the meeting begins, everybody gathers in the chapel. The chapel is made up of rows of cushioned seats, and jus...

Blue Mountain Resort

Image
Upon first sight of Blue Mountain, it's clear that a place can not only be calming but also overwhelming. The vastness of the peaks being swallowed by clouds gives an ominous feeling. It's easy to feel intimidated or feel butterflies in my stomach, but then the kids running around laughing snaps me back to reality. The sun peeks and shines through the heavy clouds while birds caw caw in the distance. The breeze is slow, cool, and consistent. It feels familiar, like just the right amount. The wind is just powerful enough to blow my hair around but nothing more.  People are grilling burgers and hotdogs in the parking lot, dancing around from tailgate to tailgate. Everyone had a smile on their face, many beers are offered, even to some who are a little too young. Most of the grillers has either a cool mustache or cool sunglasses. Smoke rises above the cars, some from teenagers vaping and some from the grill, it all blends in regardless. All different ages are getting along and s...

Friday Nights at the White Knight's

Image
The White Knight's Game Room in Bloom(WKGR) is a small, unassuming store hidden among the houses and other stores on W Main Street. From the outside, it looks like a regular house, except for a blue hanging sign next to the entrance. However, as soon as you take your first step inside, you are greeted by a cozy room, lined with shelves stocked with many cards and board games. Most likely, there will be an employee there if you want to ask any questions or just want to talk! They are friendly and always happy to talk about anything related to board or card games! Further in, you will find a small room with a few tables, usually occupied by groups playing some kind of game, along with a TV playing in the background, lending to a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Draft night! On the first Friday of each month is a Magic the Gathering draft tournament, where you pick cards from packs as they get passed around the table, then build a deck with your cards and compete in a tournament with that...

Mr. Miller, approaching retirement after a long career as a physical education teacher, radiates youthful energy. Tall, with square glasses, he commands respect as an exemplary teacher. Nostalgia fills the gymnasium while he guides 21 fourth-grade students through themed activities. Three stations await the students, each presenting a new challenge.     Jump-rope exercises launched the session, featuring the 'skipper,' in which students alternated feet as they bounded over a long, blue-and-white rope. During a freestyle round, each participant invented unique movements. Divided into three groups of seven, the class rotated through the stations. Seven regular jump ropes: red, blue, green, pink, purple, yellow, and white, and ensured every student could participate. For the 'skipper' activity, two long ropes (blue and white, and green and white) swung in wide arcs as students collaborated in pairs. The jump rope station sparked particular enthusiasm.   ...

Where Everyone Has a Seat

Image
From the outside Cafe Martha blends into the row of old brick buildings that line the main street of Bloomsburg Pennsylvania, its faded green canopy slouches over the door and the windows frosted with condensation looks to be just another cafe. But the moment the doors swing open an enchanting ambiance greets everyone who enters. The array of freshly brewing espresso with sweet homemade coffee syrups simmering together paired with the heavenly scent of freshly baked pastries, all seep into your nostrils together. Warm amber lighting encircles you, sourcing from antique wall sconces and whimsical fairy lights that have been intertwined with fabric star garland, strung across it's red brick walls, partnered with industrial notes of hanging old guitars and local artist artwork displayed on every inch of the walls. The space drums to soft indie music some tunes familiar while others entirely new. Cafe Martha serves as a place to grab a cozy coffee, while also offering a space to stay...

The Acupuncturist                                                       Written by Keith Boyd  When you think of Bloomsburg usually the first thing that might come to mind is the Bloomsburg fair, the college, or even the local stores on main street. What about an ancient Chinese alternative medicine that dates back thousands of years do you think about that when you think about Bloomsburg, my assumption is probably not. Debbie Smith is our one and only friendly neighborhood acupuncturist in town and she treats various patients from day to day using the medical treatment known as Acupuncture. For those that don't know Acupuncture is  a therapeutic technique involving the ...
