Where Champions are Made-The Bloomsburg Weightroom
The Bloomsburg Weight Room is the foundation of our athletic success. Performing at a high level does not start on the field or court; it begins here. When you enter the bottom door of Nelson Field House, the silence of an early winter morning will immediately be interrupted by blasting music and the roars of a team lifting in this weightroom.

Andrew, our university strength coach, noted, "It is so awesome to be a part of programs that thrive during intensive lifts as early as six o'clock in the morning."
Andrew has been here at Bloomsburg since 2017. He is a tall, bald individual who is always walking around looking to help athletes out. He was a college soccer player and holds a Master's degree in Exercise Science. Every varsity sport at Bloomsburg gathers and lifts at scheduled times throughout the day. The lifts are hand-crafted for each team to maximize their strength needed to compete at the highest level. Without each program's dedication to lifting, Bloomsburg as a whole would not have the rich history of success that we all know and love.
The Weightroom was very well constructed with enough room to fit entire rosters. When you walk in, you are met with ten racks with colored 'bumper' weights organized on each side along with weights containing the iconic Husky logo hanging off the side. Each rack has a plethora of weights ranging from five pounds to forty-five pounds. It is not uncommon to see the logo plastered around here. The free weights displayed on a rack against the wall all have the clean Husky logo.

"The weightroom is a great environment" said enthusiastically by Alec Baxley, a freshman wrestler, "There is always great energy in here and we all feed off of each other."
You will often hear athletes yelling in support of each other. That kind of energy enhances the environment, and it is undervalued how much that matters. It helps these athletes lift more weight which not only helps their strength but also their also their confidence.
The weightroom's doors are always open. You can always hear the thumping of weights and blasting music. The music varies from team to team. Some teams need super violent, fast paced, music to get excited to lift, and other teams listen to slow moving country music. In the weightroom, everyone has their own needs. That is the beauty of lifting, there are countless preferences that people have about feeling their best and sometimes you will find that people have some quirks.
Santino Danise, another freshman wrestler, had something to say about this, "Sometimes if I am lifting some really heavy weight, I need a few hard smacks on the back to really get me jacked up to get the weight up."
The weightroom is a spot where everyone comes from a variety of sports with different goals. Although, in here there is one goal that everyone has in common; that is the need to get stronger and prepare your body to perform at a high level.
Teams benefit greatly from lifting. The strength aspect is very important, but you build so much confidence by lifting a lot of weight. It takes a lot of determination to get those last few reps up. When you fill your brain with self-doubt, it can hurt your lifts tremendously. That confidence follows you out of the weightroom and onto the field or court. Pushing past what you think you can do is how athletes make tremendous improvements. The weightroom is just a room with weights if there are not athletes trying their hardest to be the best version of themselves. The environment that has been created at the Bloomsburg weightroom is one that will continue to grow and improve as time goes on to ensure that our programs continue to grow and thrive just like the athletes that came here before us.
