Alliances within The Hunger Games Fandom
With a fandom as interesting as The Hunger Games it can be hard not to want to partake and learn more. The Hunger Games fandom has many elements to it which allow for fan engagement. The different aspects of the fandom can lead to a feeling of fulfillment for the vast majority of participating individuals. Since The Hunger Games is a large fandom it not only has many options for engagement but also a lot of media within those options. The fandom has really unique elements anyone would want to participate in such as video creations and fan-fictions.
A special way that THG fans can interact is through fan made films of The Hunger Games. A fan film is something that anyone can participate in. The development of one can lead to a product which other fans can view and a sense of accomplishment to those who helped make it. It also is an amazing way to unify fans and maybe even help people learn about their love for The Hunger Games. One fan put together a filmed interpretation of a Hunger Games movie. This film was called the Hunger games: The Second Quarter Quell, it shows Haymitch’s Hunger Games (1). Fan films help fuel exploration of fandoms and increase fandom knowledge. Participating in the creation of a fan film can be fun as it involves unity, expression, and connections. Those getting together to create a fan film all have a shared interest and therefore participating in the creation of a fan film can lead to increased friendships. The description of the film reads “this was made for fans of THE HUNGER GAMES by fans of THE HUNGER GAMES” (1) showing the fans dedication to not The Hunger Games but The Hunger Games fans. Fans creating new media for other fans to view is an amazing display of how fans come together to build up their community and the more fans participating the more media that gets put out for fans to enjoy. Another example shows a replication of The Hunger Games. This fan created film, The hunger games but better, replicates the first film
except it was made to be funny. The film is much less serious and was very different from the original (2). This film shows the fun and enjoyment that fans get from participating and creating content within their fandoms. The fact that fans can create fun films like this shows that anyone can create their own media. It does not take a big corporation it really just takes a group of friends. If one wants to participate in The Hunger Games fandom more starting the production of a fan film or asking to participate in one is a great way to have fun and learn more about THG.

Another way that fans can increase and participate in their fan interactions is through the creation and critiquing of fanfiction. Fanfiction is an amazing outlet that can allow for fans to have a greater experience within their fandom. Through online fanfiction sites, fans are able to read and write fanfictions as well as converse with other fans through comment sections. One cool thing about fanfiction sites are that anyone can upload any type of fanfiction that they want, this means fanfictions are really accessible to fans. Fanfictions can give fans a sense of fulfillment also as fanfictions allow for authors to use their creativity to produce a piece of work that might not be thought of by others. For example a specific fanfiction But When It's Over, I'm Still Awake explores the relationship of Katniss and Johanna in a lesbian relationship. The author used their interpretation of how Katniss and Johanna would behave in a relationship together to produce a story for other fans to read. (3). Anyone interested can become an author and use
their creative liberty to create unique scenarios. One other really awesome part of fanfiction is that sites also act as places in which fans can interact with one another through comments. This place for fan interaction and unity is very accessible and allows fans to support and guide one another in areas of development. A user Itsyaboi.Foxface in the fanfiction Burn showed active support of the author through their comment which stated, “This is amazing. I have shipped it for so long, [since I] never thought eithe[r] of them were into guys. This just melted my heart” (4) This review is a great demonstration of how fans can connect online and uplift one another. Participating in writing and commenting on fanfictions can increase positivity and support within a fandom. Fanfiction is an extremely easy way to get participate more within a fandom and build connections.

The Hunger Games fandom has many opportunities for fan interactions involving video creations and fanfictions. The Hunger Games fandoms has elements to help create a space for fans to participate in different ways. The components within the fandom show how fans uplift one another. Anyone can become a videographer or author. Using The Hunger Games is a great way to do this as the support from ones fandom can be inspiring and encouraging.
